No. That company is spelled Logitech. Our company, Logitek Electronic Systems, designs and manufactures professional audio equipment including broadcast consoles, digital audio routers and audio level meters. (And, FYI, we have been in business longer than the computer peripheral company!)
We have manufactured broadcast audio consoles for most of the company’s life. Our early consoles, manufactured in the 1980s, were traditional analog consoles. We started making router-based digital consoles in the late 1990s.
No, all consoles currently manufactured by Logitek are router-based digital consoles.
Many digital consoles on the market are designed for direct digital input connections on the back of the console; others have onboard A/D converters. While these consoles are “digital”, they limit your flexibility. A router-based console uses a digital audio router as the heart of the facility’s operation, and what appears to be a console is nothing more than a control surface.
There are many advantages! The main advantage is flexibility -- any input that is available at the router can be made available at any fader on any control surface connected to the router. Wiring from the router to the console is generally a single cable, making connection of the physical surface extremely easy. Multiple routers can be networked using 1 Gigabit fiber optic connections; this allows multiple stations under the same roof to share codecs, satellite feeds and other sources. Plus, our powerful Supervisor / Command Builder software gives you unprecedented control over your operation. You can completely re-map a console’s layout with the press of a single button, and can handle other tasks such as EAS routing. For more information, see our Audio Engine information.
No! The beauty of a Logitek Console Router System is that it takes care of the mixing, distribution, program feeds, auxiliary feeds, connections to and from your hard disk systems, and other functions. You can eliminate racks of DA’s, A/D converters and rate converters. The Audio Engine is much, much more than just a connection point for your console.
All of these functions are available in the Audio Engine. A few require our multi-DSP processor card, the SharcAttack.
All of our meters, with the exception of the old “needle” style mechanical meters, can be ordered with analog or digital input. Some meters offer both in the same box.
The main difference is that our meters use the international VU ballistics standard. Other popular meters use proprietary “loudness” scales and other standards, which can look pretty but not give you any valuable information about your audio. By following the international standard, you can be sure that the audio you’re mastering or duplicating will really be at the correct levels no matter where it’s used.
