vMix Control Surface Information

The usefulness of the Logitek Audio Engine has been expanded with the vMix Virtual Mixer Software for the PC. This software allows a computer to control the Logitek Digital Audio Engine without using any other control surface or to duplicate another control surface while occupying very little space. To the user, the computer becomes the console.

Making a video display become the "console" provides a very space efficient means of adding another control point in a studio, replacing a full console in a studio or controlling a console from remote locations. vMix software simultaneously emulates up to three different hardware control surfaces depending on how the Audio Engine has been programmed. Each surface may have up to 30 faders.

vMix provides all of the features of a hardware control surface. With a click of a mouse or the touch of a finger, the operator can turn channels on and off, change fader levels or change input routing, as well as controlling the EQ, pan and monitor systems.

vMix operates on a Windows 9x or NT/2000/XP computer using either a CRT or flat panel XGA display. This PC communicates with Supervisor software by an IP network connection. Vmix, used on a computer with a modem, can connect to a remote location and have full control of the Audio Engine. vMix allows many new operating alternatives for the Logitek Audio Engine.

vMix Control Surface Information

  • Each input channel has its own display area. The signal source is shown on the top line and the input mode is shown on the bottom line.
  • The Input button displays a drop down list of all the inputs available for the fader. Selecting a new input causes the router to assign the input to that channel.
  • The Mode button changes how the input is connected to the stereo busses. Pressing Mode cycles through mono, stereo, left only, right only or phase reverse modes of operation.
  • Bus assign buttons control whether the fader connects to the program, cue or auxiliary channels.
  • The Pan-EQ button displays a window containing controls for these features. EQ is an optional feature for the Audio Engine and requires a Fullhouse DSP card.
  • The Main Gain Faders are moved up and down by dragging them with a mouse. Fine gain adjustments can be made using the keyboard arrow keys. Faders can be assigned to one of two subgroups. This enables groups of faders to be moved simultaneously.
  • Main channel buttons allow all outputs for a fader to be turned on and off together. Machine control is integrated into these buttons.
  • The monitor section provides independent control of input source selection and gain level for three outputs. These can be used to drive headphones and speakers from the audio engine.
  • The timer display shows either the elapsed time or the time remaining since the last event.
  • The VU peak meters contain 25 segments in each bargraph. The 50 dB dynamic range is larger than the standard VU scale to allow both VU and peak values to be displayed. The center scale 0 dB point and four color display help keep the extra information from being confusing. Average and peak data is collected by the audio engine and passed to vMix which handles the ballistics. The two meters on the left are assigned to the main output bus. The two meters on the right are assigned to the monitor channel.

Purchasing Information

vMix is an option for Logitek Console Router systems. It is especially useful for people who need to access the Logitek system remotely. vMix will not work independently of a Logitek Console Router System, but a physical console is not required - your system can be as small as an Audio Engine and a vMix "console".
